Best Practice projectBackgroundWe established the Best Practice project in 2005 to offer a complete service to all volunteer-involving organisations registered with us. We have some 300 local organisations registered all of which can benefit from the project along with all the volunteers that support them. The purpose of the project is to ensure that registered volunteer-using organisations are supporting, valuing and developing their volunteers to their full potential. OutreachThe project involves outreach delivery of practical help and advice to staff in their own premises on issues relating to volunteer management, such as writing volunteer policies and agreements, supervision and support of volunteers, retention, risk management, health and safety issues, etc. TrainingThe project organises training sessions to reinforce "best practice" within volunteer-using organisations. The sessions cover: models of volunteer involvement, volunteering policies, recruitment and retention, legal and practical issues, working with disabled volunteers, working with ex-offenders and substance abusers, working with BME, refugee and asylum-seeker volunteers, working with young people as volunteers. The project is proactive in providing services to help organisations in supporting and valuing volunteers. Confidential interviewing space is available if required.
